Notes from the Children's Library

Fall is here and the library is the best place to be in the upcoming months. On October 1st we will have Bedtime Story Hour @ 6:30pm for kids ages 2-6 and also on that night we will have Monsters vs. Aliens showing at 6pm.

Kids Club is every Wednesday @ 3pm for kids ages 5-11. Activities include outdoor games, crafts, books, snacks and more. This is a drop in program. On October 16th @ 3:30pm we will be teaching kids ages 7-10 how to cook and we'll also do a craft while we wait for our food. Sign up for that program at the library.

Something for tweens and teens to look forward to is our Edible Fear Factor Challenge on October 22nd. Would you eat chocolate covered crickets? How about clam juice, sardines, and jell-o covered in ketchup? If you are between the ages of 10-16 and think you can handle those things, then stop into the library to sign up for this event. Prizes will be awarded.

There is a lot more coming up in October for kids in the library. Stop in or visit our website @ www.midyork.org/waterville for more information.

Library Lines

This week we salute old friends and new-- that is our wonderful, reinvigorated Friends of the Waterville Public Library. Recently the Friends pulled off another lollapalooza used book sale, they've assisted with our Summer Carnival and bike safety rodeo, showed the flag at the Chamber's Summerfest in the park, they've helped shelve the "skinny" books in the children's room, and they stand by, ready to deliver books to any of us who find it difficult for one reason or another to venture out to the Library. The Friends' Harvest Gift Basket raffle will wrap up on September 26, so drop by the Library soon to buy a string of tickets.

Speaking of raffles, we have two other very attractive offerings just under way-- both of which you should keep in mind for the upcoming gift season. First, a set of five Wizard of Oz character Barbie dolls, including Dorothy and her pals, plus good witch Glinda. And, a fine set of Bob the Builder toys. Follow the yellow stripe down White Street to #206 for tickets.

Mark your calendars for Bubble Man on September 19, at 10:30 a.m. for great fun, all ages. And, the fall frivolity continues with our annual Scarecrow Contest-- entries due by September 26, the brainier the better!

Finally, chew on our fresh crop of foodie books we have just in-- lots to digest, from Julia Child (My Life in France) and Ina Garten to Slow Food.
